About the Periodical

The Riveraine Muse is a half-yearly magazine of Literature, Arts and Culture. Located off the urban aridness of a city, fanned by the moisture of a river breeze’s correspondence of ideas, this periodical acknowledges both its topological and its intellectual position as being open, unfettered, politically incorrect, generically lost or loitering by riversides: real-world, mnemonic or hallucinatory. But, it seeks to achieve all this with a fine balance:its influx and efflux ultimately sensitive to global movements, not unlike a river, however rampant or raucous its immediate impact.

We seek contributions to sections crafted with the nicety and surprise of a riverbank. Regular sections of Poetry, Short Fiction, Non-Fiction, Artwork, Cinema Writings, Interviews and Book Reviews for which we seek work that comes with a whiff of fresh and bracing river wind, may be sometimes through the gloom of a monsoon midday. We value the contrast in tone and the pause-start dynamism of ideas heading upstream or down.

We pledge to support those who ‘have’ to write more than those who ‘want’ to. It doesn’t matter whether you are obscure or well-known, a commoner or a celebrity. All that matters for us at The Riveraine Muse is that whatever you write has to be original. The more unconventional or offbeat your contribution, the greater is your scope of finding a space in this magazine.

You are invited to send us your most ambitious or/and your most troubling work, work which divides you down the middle and allows a river to flow through. The Riveraine Muse looks to curate extraordinary commonness of rivers and riveraine metaphors, like the mundaneness and indispensability of water itself. We shall lie in wait, patiently, at water’s marge to witness how commonly the extraordinary is washed up by the swirl and vortex of waters shoring up things as new alluvial matter to the ferment of imagination.
